The girls’ Junior Varsity team won its sixth consecutive meet Tuesday evening at Conference. The JV finishes the year with a record of 60-2. Their only two losses for the season came at the Pella Invitational to 4A powerhouses Waukee and Cedar Falls.

Pella displayed tremendous depth placing seven athletes in the top ten, and eleven in the top 20. Amanda Dunkin was the JV individual champion in a time of 17:58. This marked the first time she has broken 18:00 this season.Sophie Metcalf finished third in a time of 18:02, also a personal best. Amanda and Sophie ran together throughout the race, the majority of the time trailing Bailey Probasco of Knoxville. Their teamwork paid off in the last mile as the caught Bailey. The three athletes sprinted to the finish together.

Helping complete Pella’s team score of 21 points were Shanice Robinson (4th), Chloe Mathonet-VanderWell (6th), and Lauren Barrick (7th). Ally Huffman and Alex Kleis also finished in the top ten. All of these performances were personal bests.

“It was an incredible season for these young ladies,” said Coach Cutler. “Last year we only had 11 members on the team, many times only 8 or 9 who were healthy enough to run. Just being able to field a JV team this year was one of our team goals. Winning nearly every race was a bit of a surprise. We had quite a few first year runners, and the progress they made this season was impressive. Hopefully they will look toward Michelle Renaud’s example. Michelle last season was new to cross country, and this year she was our #2 Varsity finisher at Conference. There are several of these young ladies I think could have that type of impact next season.”
